Kath Gibbin

Residential Service Manager

What I do at St Petrocs

Hello I'm Kath and I am one of the Service Managers for the Supported Accommodation team within this amazing charity.
My role is to manage a team of dedicated supported accommodation officers, who are working with the homeless of Cornwall. The team provide housing and support to the most vulnerable members of society. I am lucky enough to work with a strong and dedicated group of people with an immense background in a variety of different skills and experiences.

Why St Petrocs

The charity is constantly developing and expanding. We are becoming a large provider of supported accommodation and yet we somehow manage to keep the unique family style of working that sets us apart.
We work with people who are often overlooked by society, our staff teams are determined to ensure the people who are homeless have a voice, have accommodation and have someone in their corner.
We offer a lot of support to our employees, there is always someone with a coffee and a smile, to sit and chat. You maybe at times lone working, but you are never truly working alone. I am truly valued in my work and from the directors down, we are all approachable, relatable and we have all worked our way up into the roles we are in. That's why I love my job, that's why I love my team and above all, that is why I recommend a career in St Petrocs.

Who am I?

I am originally from Liverpool and have been in Cornwall since 1999. Since arriving here, I have worked in Social Care. I have been a Carer, a teaching assistant, a Foster Carer, a family worker within the Drugs and Alcohol team and I have completed a Social Work degree. It was during my training that I was placed in St Petrocs as a student. I found the passion of the team and the body of work that was happening around me to be an emotional rollercoaster, demanding, thought provoking and above all something I knew I had to be a part of. 8 years later, I have not looked back.

Advice for prospective candidates

My biggest advice for applying for the role, is to think about the experiences you have had, and how they relate to the work you will be undertaking in St Petrocs.
All experience is important, from being an expert by experience to health and social care qualifications. All of your knowledge and how you can apply it to someone's journey with us is what will set you apart from others.
Good Luck, and we look forward to meeting you.
